Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag

I love this picture so much. (via unsplash.com)

First of all, yes, I know it is no longer the middle of the year.  Victoria tagged me for this a while back, and I never got around to it.  So, maybe this can be the Three-Quarters-of-the-Year Book Freak-Out Tag?  Anyway.  And upon looking, I find that I actually have not read as many books as you would have thought.  But I guess that’s okay, because I also read several longer/harder books, including a lot of nonfiction.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2016

Okay, seriously?  Let’s have two – Pendragon’s Heir by Susannah Rowntree and The Shock of Night by Patrick Carr.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016

Pretty much all of the Goldstone Wood books.  If I had to pick, I guess I’d go with Starflower.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to

I’m really horrible at keeping up with new releases.  So I have no idea.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

See above.

Biggest disappointment

Honestly, I was kind of disappointed by some of Wayne Thomas Batson’s later work.  I absolutely loved Isle of Swords and Isle of Fire, but I read the first two Berinfell Prophecies books and the Dreamtreaders trilogy and they just didn’t seem as good.  Maybe it was because they were written for younger kids?  I don’t really know.  Also, Krista McGee’s Anomaly trilogy, which I didn’t finish.

Biggest surprise

Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte.  I didn’t really know what to think going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised in some areas (although on the whole it’s still rather depressing)

Favorite new author

I’m going to follow Victoria and do an author new to me, so I’ll go with Susannah Rowntree.

Newest fictional crush/ship

Um.

Oh yeah.  Vin and Elend from Mistborn.  They are such an adorable couple.

Newest favorite character

That is impossibly difficult.  I loved Eanrin from Goldstone Wood, he’s just so wonderfully sarcastic and cat-like.  But Perceval from Pendragon’s Heir was pretty awesome too.

Book that made you cry

I’m a heartless bookworm and I almost never cry at books, but I did cry at the end of Dreamlander.

Book that made you happy

Again, pretty much all the Goldstone Wood books, but especially the last one, Golden Daughter.

Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year

*tries to think of one I saw* Well, I did see Ben Hur, but I don’t think that counts, because I haven’t read the book?  But that’s the only one I can think of.

Favorite post you’ve done so far this year

This isn’t really a book blog, but here’s my summer reading list.

Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year

I Dare You, by Isabella Morganthal.  When it came in the mail I was just so happy.

What books you need to read by the end of the year

Um.  Ha ha ha.  Well, here’s the list on my whiteboard.  And there are many, many more.

wp-1473197469655.jpg

But let’s just settle for finishing the ones I’m reading now?  Seriously, school starts on Monday, and I have Bible Bee, so reading will probably end up being more those five minutes in the car, or during breakfast or when I need a break from studying.

I’m kind of hesitant to tag anyone for this, because it’s awfully late, but I’ll go ahead anyway (sorry if you’ve already been tagged!)

Kate // Aberdeen // Write Fury // You.  Just steal this tag, please!

Have you read any of these?  What books are you reading right now?  What are your favorites (or least favorites!) from this year so far?

  1. Those are awesome answers!!! And thanks for tagging me. 😉 I’ll try to do this soon so it’s not an “End of the Year” tag. 😉

That is so great that you’ve read Dreamlander now!!! What did you think of if? I also noticed that we have several other books in common like the Sparrow series and a few others you mentioned that I need to read. Do you follow Homeschooled Authors?

    1. You’re welcome! Ha ha, I think that would actually work kind of well… 😉
I loved Dreamlander! The plot and premise were really original, and she was very sensitive with all the complex issues and emotions the characters had to go through. I couldn’t put it down, so I ended up finishing it at like midnight xP
No, I don’t follow them. Who are they?

      1. Yeah, maybe we should do another one at the end of the year. 😉 That’s great!!! Welcome to the fandom. 😉 Now to wait five years for the sequel…

Homeschooled Authors is a website run mainly by Sarah Holman, a Christian author, for connecting authors and readers. We mostly do interviews and book spotlights, but the Read-to-Win stuff I was sharing was by that site too. A ton of the books I read are found from there since most of the books are Christian or at least very clean. 😉 The Sparrow series, Alicia Willis’s book, Dreamlander, and I think Anne Elizabeth Stengl’s are on there. (Isabella Morganthal’s is about to be.) It’s a pretty fun site. 😉

  2. Whaaaaat you’ve read the Mistborn triology?! YES! I just finished Hero of the Ages a couple weeks ago. Definitely one of my absolute favorite series. 🙂 And a side note on the Vin/Elend thing, I love how it doesn’t take over the story at all. Especially in the third book, where they’re just…a normal married couple. Saving the world and stuff. 😛

    1. I know, Sanderson is a really good writer! And the romance was so perfect. It was a great subplot, but like you said, it didn’t totally take over. I loved Vin and Elend’s dynamic together too xP

  3. Eeeee I am so happy that you tagged me for this. Thank you. =D

And I am also so very happy that you’re enjoying Goldstone Wood so much because it’s one of my favorite series ever. Starflower is probably my favorite of them all. ❤

I'll have to look into I Dare You; it seems like something I'd like. And yay for Vin and Elend. That's another favorite series of mine. Also, The Foundling's Tale is an amazing series. Enjoy. =D

    1. You’re welcome! I wasn’t sure if you’d been tagged already 😉
YES… I love Goldstone Wood so much! ❤ And I have A Branch of Silver, a Branch of Gold on hold from the library, so hopefully I can read it soon. =D

  4. Thanks for sharing your lists and favorites! I gotta check out Dreamlander. KM Weiland is a seriously amazing writer with a multitude of knowledge on story structure, etc, so I know it’ll be worth the read. I love the picture you chose– Unsplash is an awesome resource. ❤

    1. Yes, you should check it out! She’s a great author. Have you read any of her other work?
Yep, I love Unsplash 🙂 Although I would never do that to any of my books xP

  5. *loves this post*

Pendragon’s Heir was everything I hoped for and more.

Someone else who loves the Tales of Goldstone Wood!!! *tacklehugs* That series is precious to me–I love it so. ❤ And Eanrin is incomparable. ^_^ Which book is your favorite?

Ooo, so Mistborn is good then? I've been wanting to read it, but I didn't know anything about it.

    1. Oh yes, Goldstone Wood is wonderful. ❤ I honestly don't know which is my favorite. Either Starflower or Golden Daughter, I think; probably Starflower. I just love Eanrin + Imraldera in that one. ❤ Which is your favorite?

Yes, it is good! There were some things I didn't like (because Sanderson isn't a Christian, so of course his view of religion, etc. is rather off), but he's a fantastic writer. The characters were some of the best I've ever seen. Let me know if you read them! I'd love to hear what you think.
