Mid-Year Book Freak-Out Tag

First of all, yes, I know it is no longer the middle of the year.  Victoria tagged me for this a while back, and I never got around to it.  So, maybe this can be the Three-Quarters-of-the-Year Book Freak-Out Tag?  Anyway.  And upon looking, I find that I actually have not read as many books as you would have thought.  But I guess that’s okay, because I also read several longer/harder books, including a lot of nonfiction.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2016

Okay, seriously?  Let’s have two – Pendragon’s Heir by Susannah Rowntree and The Shock of Night by Patrick Carr.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2016

Pretty much all of the Goldstone Wood books.  If I had to pick, I guess I’d go with Starflower.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to

I’m really horrible at keeping up with new releases.  So I have no idea.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

See above.

Biggest disappointment

Honestly, I was kind of disappointed by some of Wayne Thomas Batson’s later work.  I absolutely loved Isle of Swords and Isle of Fire, but I read the first two Berinfell Prophecies books and the Dreamtreaders trilogy and they just didn’t seem as good.  Maybe it was because they were written for younger kids?  I don’t really know.  Also, Krista McGee’s Anomaly trilogy, which I didn’t finish.

Biggest surprise

Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte.  I didn’t really know what to think going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised in some areas (although on the whole it’s still rather depressing)

Favorite new author

I’m going to follow Victoria and do an author new to me, so I’ll go with Susannah Rowntree.

Newest fictional crush/ship

Um.

Oh yeah.  Vin and Elend from Mistborn.  They are such an adorable couple.

Newest favorite character

That is impossibly difficult.  I loved Eanrin from Goldstone Wood, he’s just so wonderfully sarcastic and cat-like.  But Perceval from Pendragon’s Heir was pretty awesome too.

Book that made you cry

I’m a heartless bookworm and I almost never cry at books, but I did cry at the end of Dreamlander.

Book that made you happy

Again, pretty much all the Goldstone Wood books, but especially the last one, Golden Daughter.

Favorite book to film adaptation you saw this year

*tries to think of one I saw* Well, I did see Ben Hur, but I don’t think that counts, because I haven’t read the book?  But that’s the only one I can think of.

This isn’t really a book blog, but here’s my summer reading list.

Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year

I Dare You, by Isabella Morganthal.  When it came in the mail I was just so happy.

What books you need to read by the end of the year

Um.  Ha ha ha.  Well, here’s the list on my whiteboard.  And there are many, many more.

But let’s just settle for finishing the ones I’m reading now?  Seriously, school starts on Monday, and I have Bible Bee, so reading will probably end up being more those five minutes in the car, or during breakfast or when I need a break from studying.

I’m kind of hesitant to tag anyone for this, because it’s awfully late, but I’ll go ahead anyway (sorry if you’ve already been tagged!)
